Into the Orchard

Commissioned by Firstsite, Into the Orchard is a exhibition of new works I am making in collaboration with photographer Maddie Persent. The exhibition includes an immersive audio-visual installation and a wall-mounted installation alongside a display of archival materials. The exhibition draws on the documentation I have been doing of a small apple farm in north Essex, over the last two years.

In conjunction with the exhibition, I’ve programmed an Apple Day celebration at the gallery, with apple identification and tasting, local growers showing and selling their fruit, producers from diverse backgrounds bringing apple products and dishes from their repertoires, Essex Records Office bringing a pop-up audio memory booth, family activities and more. Marley Karazimba’s film Don’t Fight The Land Which Feeds You will be screened, with an artist Q&A with Marley, Maddie and myself.

The exhibition is on from 5 October 2025 to 22 February 2026.
