I am a designer, planner and writer based in Essex. Born and brought up in East Anglia, I trained in architecture in Cambridge, London and at the Rural Studio in Alabama.
I co-founded HAT Projects in 2007 and through the practice, have led on the development of new buildings, and bringing old ones back into use; regeneration strategies and long-term planning frameworks; landscape and public space design. Our work has won several RIBA Awards and been featured in the national and international press. Alongside my work at HAT, I undertook a four-year secondment into the public sector from 2018-22, working on local development plans and leading on public and partner engagement with the land-use planning process. You can read more about my professional experience on the HAT Projects website.
I have been published as a journalist, commentator and essayist in print and online magazines and several books.
Sixteen Acres, my first non-fiction book, will be published by Profile Books in 2027. An early version was shortlisted for the Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize in 2025.
